Canada Music Week Recital 2013 (ORMTA Owen Sound Branch)

Our recital was one week ago today, and I think it went really well! Altogether we had 22 students play a wide variety of Canadian works.  A couple of fun duets were showcased, and even some brave adults played to the very appreciate audience.  Everyone played so well and confidently, and it was a great way to share all the hard work we'd done this fall.

Some of my students worked very hard on a duet especially for this recital. These gentlemen are playing a Debra Wanless arrangement of The Huron Carol....I love the fact that they take turns playing a drum beat for this piece.  This video shows a practise run before the recital...take a look!

Another pair of students prepared a duet called Giddy Up! Suzie, also by Debra Wanless.  These girls have already played a few ensembles together and are getting to be very good partners!  This piece features a wood block which the students take turns playing.  I think the addition of sound effects in a piece is so fun!  Here's the video (again, this is a trial run before the actual recital):

After the program was over we headed over to the snack table where Mrs. H handed out pieces of a gigantic cake and cups of her famous sherbet punch. Now that the big event is over we are having lots of fun choosing new pieces, including some holiday music to play at the next performance class. You can watch more videos of our recital pieces by clicking on this link. Again, great job everyone!
